Visitors to Sherwood Forest Park in Brisbane, Australia, now have a new landing from which to board park ferries. The 4 m x 12 m Unifloat pontoon was specially designed and installed by Bellingham Marine Australia to accommodate the ferries and smaller craft.
The pontoon is anchored by two pilings and stepped down on the outward end for boaters in canoes and other craft with low freeboard. The system also includes six mooring piles for commuter ferries to berth against, providing high freeboard for passengers boarding. In addition to the anchor pilings, the pontoon is held in position by a safety chain to keep it from floating away during extreme flood conditions. Bellingham also installed a 1.8 m x 22 m gangway from the shoreside walkway to the pontoon. The system features two stainless steel ladders, fender timbers and stainless steel thru-rods, mesh and reinforcement.
Sherwood Forest Park, often referred to as Sherwood Arboretum, is situated on the Sherwood reach of the Brisbane River. Because of its rich soils, the park has been set aside for collecting botanical species, which currently number over 400 indigenous plants. The park also has numerous water sources and lakes that are renowned for attracting wetlands birds.
