Ideally located in the largest recreational boat harbor on the west coast of the U.S., Bellport’s Lido Yacht Anchorage & Drystack recently completed a renovation, which included the removal and replacement of a portion of the marina’s docks.

The renovation was scheduled to coincide with a large dredge project in Rhine Channel. In July of 2011, the docks were removed to facilitate the removal of over 90,000 cubic yards of dirt laced with mercury, pesticides and other toxic chemicals. The dredge project removed the Rhine Channel off the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s list of toxic hot spots and restored safe passage through the waterway for commercial and recreational vessels.

With the completion of the dredge project in November, Bellingham Marine began work installing the marina’s new docks. The docks for the project were supplied by Bellingham Marine’s Timber Division. New locker boxes, power centers, and fire hose cabinets were also installed. During the renovation, electrical components, potable water lines, and fire suppression infrastructure were also upgraded.

The new docks feature a specially engineering southern yellow pine deck enhanced with a moisture inhibiter to extend the dock’s service life. BellPort Group who manages the facility is extremely happy with the quality of the new docks. Bruce Inlow, Lido Yacht Anchorage Marina Manager said, “The quality of Bellingham’s timber dock surpasses anything we’ve seen in the timber dock market. It’s an extremely stable and durable design that’s beautifully finished with quality trim work. Our tenants have been very pleased with their new berths.”

The marina received final approval from the fire department on April 3rd. A popular destination for all boating activities including sailing, fishing, rowing, kayaking and paddleboarding, Newport Harbor is a semi artificial harbor that was formed by dredging an estuary during the early 1900’s. Once a thriving port for maritime industries such as boatbuilding, shipbuilding, and commercial fishing, today, the harbor is used mostly for recreation.
