Service:Supervision of Dock Installation,Design / Supply
Scope:New Marina Construction
Description
St. Paul Island is a small island located in the Bering Sea off the coast of Alaska. The region is known for its rough waters and brutal winters. Due to the extreme weather conditions, the marina required seasonal docks.
The remote location and harsh environment made for a number of unique challenges. All materials had to be prefabricated, as there were no local sources. In addition, the entire marina system, including piling, was designed to allow for easy removal. Each winter the marina has to be completely disassembled and stored upland due to severe freezing temperatures.
