The Port of San Diego now welcomes visiting boaters with new, state-of-the-art floating docks designed and installed by Bellingham Marine. In addition to short-term public berths, Bellingham also constructed a new dock for the Harbor Police and US Customs boats.

The concrete Unifloat® police dock, which provides a safe, side-tie working platform for the official agencies, replaces the wooden structure built in the 1950s. The new dock measures 12′ wide x 400′ long and can accommodate boats up to 130′. It is designed for a 3′ maximum wave height and 45′ wave length, and has three sewage pumpout stations. The 16 transient slips range in length from 35′ to 55′ and have full utilities, including electricity and potable water. Both docks are equipped with firefighting apparatus.

As general contractor for the project, Bellingham also designed and built the ADA-certified access system of shoreside walks that lead to 120′ of switch-back gangways. These allow visitors with mobility restrictions to move from shore to the floating docks safely. The company also contracted construction of the parking areas, sidewalks, landscaping and upland utilities. Shelter Island is the center of San Diego Bay’s marine activities. It’s just minutes from some of the finest marinas, hotels, restaurants and shops in the region.
