Situated on the caldera of a supervolcano, you will find the largest freshwater lake in New Zealand. A trout fishing mecca, Motuoapa Marina on Lake Taupo is a popular holiday spot for locals and tourists alike. The marina features 158 berths and nearly 1,600 m2 of new concrete floating docks in its clear, warm waters.

The new docks feature the latest in marina technology, FRP thru-rods as well as sophisticated aluminum pile guides. With berths ranging from 8 to 14 meters in length, boats of all sizes will feel at home in the new Motuoapa Marina.

Project overview

Motuoapa Marina sits on the south shore of Lake Taupo, New Zealand’s largest freshwater lake. Built more than 50 years ago for small fishing boats, it had a circular basin with a large island in the middle. When redevelopment was approved in 2016, the island had to go.

The basin was dammed and lowered to about half a meter, then the island was dredged away.
The dredged soil reclaimed several acres at the north end for picnic, recreation and parking areas.
The new layout has 158 berths (8–14 m) and more than 1,600 m² of concrete floating docks with FRP thru-rods and aluminum pile guides.
The new marina opened in 2018.
